Trees, smoke: An optical illusion

One drowsy morning, with the sky overcast but showing no signs for a shower of drizzle, I got up earlier than usual, for I had an appointment concerning my search for a 'job', namely to be within the tide of the fray, to present myself as 'doing' something or something more than myself, the norm now. But it turned out to be a 'collective' reunion or meeting, with some eight heads like myself and a presenter or an instructor, who was all set for touting to us what she had been instructed, to let us follow the pattern of how we should present ourselves before a recruiter and so on... Within not more than half an hour, except the pre-rites of setting oneself as stilted and knowing among us and the presenter's own fusses before getting into her business, the reunion happened to be animated with some sort of mutually shared catharsis being taken advantage of marked by issuing strange cries and hissing and slackening into oneself. And at such a point, when I was sort of jaded but receptive so far, I had an optical illusion. Through the wide glass of the window just before me, as it was on the third floor, my tired eyes, always eager to identify a plant or a tree, happened to roam beyond the dancing leaves of acacia trees presenting themselves before me. The topography being a vale with a range of low wooded eminences on its either side, the land undulates here and there creating an abrupt bump before one’s eyes. And in a comparatively far distance within my ken, with a row of planted trees alongside a track, I found something gray or whitish with a wide strip of bright green moving one after another, like a snaking trail of something. And, in no time, I somehow took it for a RER train running on its track to Chessy. So I assured myself that it was. But, as my tired eyes happened to roam a bit to one corner of the view framed by the window, to my surprise, I found a rising shaft of a shiny steel chimney, maybe of a factory of the sort, with a grayish trail of smoke issuing from its top. The languidly undulating trail of it like blown by a zephyr of balanced force, its wavy form and motion kept in a steady horizontal position just at the level of trees heads, my tired eyes, the distance, the noises around me, the chimney edged away to one corner of my view, the resemblance of colors, etc. facilitated in my having such a pleasant optical illusion that was itself so soothing even after its having been debunked by myself. So, rather unsuccessfully, I made an attempt or twice to reconstruct the first illusion.

We have such treasures: Tibetan ladies who shine

Really, both of the ladies are great, and, here, the speaking one is sort of unbelievably unique. And, in essence, we have such Tibetan ladies, so eclectically educated mavericks. The main speaking one has really encompassed the essence of Tibetan Buddhist Studies, the direct products of Nalanda University, the two truths: conventional and unconventional, like the two sides of a coin, the means and the product, the relativity (so dreamy and infinitesimally collapsing but there...) and the emptiness of absoluteness or inherent origination. And, yes, thereby getting that each of the two sides forms the great co-relative truth, the one being the only means of  getting the other... Really, I do respect such Tibetan ladies and such ladies in general, who can pursue something of such grandeur, absolutely not related with superficial, earthly glitters and glamours arching just on 'money' and no more. And, yes, such a one treats money just as a minor or secondary means.

Note: The above YouTube video is an edition from Exile Voice I of Chokey Tenzin, which has been deliberately altered and later deleted by an act of betrayal by someone whom she had trusted the password of her google account. The long clip is an interview conducted by Chokey Tenzin with an educated Tibetan lady. I found it so learning and interesting that I happened to make the above comment of mine.

The Great Lapidary Right of Testing a Piece of Gold: As so or not

As Lord Buddha exhorts or lets us be at our own liberty in terms of taking his teachings as valid or not, the great lapidary right of testing a piece of gold as so or not by a professional one more matter-of-fact  than an alchemist of the medieval, I think it's the time to pose to the world the same liberty to take someone claiming as a Tibetan, if he or she is or not, in the West but by going through the same lapidary process in the form of associating and questioning and learning if, other than just petty personal interest related ones, something related with the larger picture of Tibet's survival (cultural or political) does matter to him and her or not? If yes, how? Do let him or her speak in the truest of his or her senses to feelings (do record them). We can study. In essence, as per the point that I meant to tap at then, I mean now there are many those who impersonate as being a 'Tibetan' but not so in the truest sense of the word that just has the political implication of solidarity and doing and working for and winning over in due course. A Tibetan is a Tibetan, a politically displaced one. A Himalayan of Tibetan culture can't be necessarily so. Have you ever experienced of being a politically displaced one?

The sense of narrow protection: Does it count in letting oneself grow and outgrow?

To be able to move forward, to be able to let go of, for to forgive is unusual, like, as said in Tibetan Buddhist Studies, there is no traumatic an experience like forbearance despite its being salutary, and, at last, to be maverick in the truest sense of the word or to get oneself or ourselves stuck in the quagmire of always unrealistic, myopic hardiness, with that narrow sense of protection that is always as variable as a capricious entity like 'regional politics' and its whimsical exigencies.

Bloch senior and M. Nissim Bernard and others I never knew, to blows." Marcel Proust, Time Regained

A Tibetan Novel That Roars Like Tibet's Snow Lions: We Measure The Earth With Our Bodies by Tsering Yangzom Lama

I think that I've never read a novel by a Tibetan writer that roars like of Tsering Yangzom Lama's We Measure the Earth with Our Bodies. As my reading of Marcel Proust's beyond one million worded novel or series of the sort, namely in search of time lost and regained--really something worth-reading, if you care about the working of our emotions, especially jealousy in the name of love--having recently been completed, I find her wordings really traceable and simple and sharp, so sharp and precise as of her having labored for it over a decade or more. Oh, can there be such a Tibetan woman, young and mystic, with such an extraordinary talent (not the shallow ones of any related with internet hype of now)? She has mesmerized me even much more than Yan Martel's Life of Pi, for, as you can say, I am a Tibetan. 'Oracle', 'medium', such beautiful words, and I want to add 'telepathy'. And it counts, if we can prove so, with such nuances of our identity.

And I think I keep learning on

A pergola of stone beams with corniced ends supported by slim, quadrangular stone stilts was draped in thick trailing mantles of ivy and convolvulus plants. The white flowers of the latter peeped out here and there through the thicket of foliage leaning on trellises, which made the proper place within, one level above another like two wide steps, shady, cool and secluded, like a strip of flowerbed and a lonely malus tree with its brushy branches and twigs bearing such an aesthetic touch like from an art book next by a road didn't seem to exist. And, rather as self-flattering, this is how I regard myself as trying to get myself adapted to an adventitious environment, with the above two sentences.

Tsanglha is a Tibetan dialect: Take it and learn about its history

My comment on this edition:

The great thing is that you can still speak Tsanglha dialect so fluently, like your Tibetan and Hindi. And the way you guys live there surrounded by botanical wonders is so organic, and the dishes. I can understand your in-laws can't feel or understand, or see through your eyes, the things there, the changes taken place but there still being the vestiges for you to construct on, to claim who you're. But you can see through their eyes as well that is the wonder in your person. So lovely! Yes, a Bhutanese run-of-the-mill one wondering about how Tsanglha dialect corresponds to Sharchokpa dialect should study about Sharchokpa Bhutanese migration into Tibetan territory, known as Pemakoe, when Tibet was independent, and how we, Tibet and Tibetan, let you dwell there. And now, when we are exiled, political refugees, by the illegal occupation of our country by Red China, how we treat you as ourselves, not like those a few remaining Tibetans in Bhutan by Bhutan. So, by and large, Tsanglha is a Tibetan dialect.

To conform to or to leave forever

March 12
, Tibetan Women's Uprising Day against the illegal, inhumane Chinese occupation of Tibet. But for me, who cares about it now? I mean within our own narrow circle, Tibetans diaspora, with its exiled polity now sort of crippled so far by the same schism, sort of older than of Stone Age, when it was all about seeking for some comfort to later on for protection to much later on for more complex protection, for a thinking human mind's mental constructs are endless, once the basic needs are met. (I wonder why human kinds can't live like animals?) Now, a thinking living being is nothing other than of a selfish disposition like of a cat. And, yes, Tibetan women, like U-Tsang Wa, should rise up to the understanding of their own values and guts, to be able to face any challenges ahead, even to be able to have such a volition (I don't say 'do or die'.) to conform to, if circumstances permit, or to get completely detached, for we don't have any such unavoidable bondages like 'commensalism' and 'symbiosis' of organisms to be met. If you're against His Holiness the great 14th Dalai Lama's far-reaching, humane guidance, then you've the complete right to get yourself weaned of it and find your own destiny. Such sense of narrowness within is, for me, far more wounding than what others (Mongols, China, English, Bhutan, Nepal) did to us by availing themselves of our weakness or situations then.

A great philosophical question within: Does the world now has time for such?

By taking to the core of Madhyamika philosophy, that's now Tibetan despite its origin from India or its classic individualistic refraction of the sort, of Lord Buddha's chef d'oeuvre, rather than of Hinduism, though still not having a bird's eye view over it yet by myself, I should say somehow that I can feel a genuine gratefulness for Lord Buddha, for his coming into the world with such a grand mission of dispelling the illusion of our way of discriminating and coloring by our own mental constructs begot by our blind confidence in how we take in what we view before us, the small worlds or events, like naturally formed, so concrete out there that we tend to judge this or that way in a real extreme, generalizing way, the cause of every suffering and anxiety.

And so I am a Tibetan by such an attribute, be it of our culture or my own idiosyncrasy

Thinking, despite the complexity and spectrum of its depth, can be said, in this today's world of glamor and glitter and fast joy-food-love, as a tough job, for you don't care to present as you are, for you don't care about who you're. But, in our Tibetan tradition or say in our philosophical tradition, we have such terms as 'learning', 'reflecting', 'meditating'--the linear approach to any forms of complete enlightenment--, namely the second isn't itself a complete form, a consummated exaltation at all, if it isn't taken to the third mechanism, to be yourself what you say and think, in the core of your own constitution--bodily, verbally and mentally.

To be as we have been, or let go of

As I have been reading Marcel Proust's The Captive, I am so sorry if I have happened to hurt any Albertines or Gilberts out there. But as per a Tibetan proverb, there should be the guts or volition sometimes to be decisive backed by a holistic way of reasoning or seeing. It says, "Even one's own tooth or teeth, if it or they're useless, should be extracted." Yes, I do agree with the 'holistic' way of seeing, namely taking a few steps aback and having a look from different angles, with the needy mindfulness so far. But, at last, if it doesn't work, it is, perforce, so recommendable to be extirpated but not out of being sardonic or indignant or scornful. It's, rather, out of being sensible in keeping with being considerate: to let go of, if there isn't a common ground to hold on to. And so true that we have had this habit of letting go of on a daily basis, even the changes in our own physical or mental constitution.

Then I can infer why a great, sage one can't take such a line of ruminating or seeing. So possible. Here, I mean about our own ones. If they don't feel as sort of posing redoubtable internally, those more or less megalomaniacs, by being at the helms and bluffing out as doers or leaders, namely standing before an audience of any lot and at a mike, they can leave. We don't care about you guys at all. 'Internally', I accentuate, for such ones are 'lions' internally but 'so docile like purring cats' when cast amid even a tiny lot of foreigners. If the majority of them own to such rumor mongers or messiahs of the sort by the advent of internet (the game of shining over and posing out and the petty bravado), they can leave as well. We don't care at all. I don't feel like jumping the gun by posting this update. I mean you, then, can find a more confined, homogenous world somewhere else, with the given romantic sense of self-protection or nepotism of yours. We don't need you at all, ever.

I am fed up with this game of being overbearing within. I am stark for the beauty or involuntary patience of diversity and of being eclectic and maverick. The stalemate, those at loggerheads at the helms, imposed by our own ones in running our own administration in exile could be considered from this angle as well, namely to let go of those who don't care about His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's visions for the peace and wellbeing of the world at large  and our CTA and its democratic charter and our suffering compatriots in Tibet.

Don't just sound off 'Rangzen' by taking to streets in  a free world and be its avatar backed by more or less mere emotions rather than seeing, holistic, prospective reasons and plans, and 'a way ahead' means for the so exigent needs in safeguarding our race and culture and environment in the looming death-sentence like situations out there in Tibet. If you can breathe freely and speak out or up, it doesn't mean that they, our compatriots in Tibet, can do so as well. You have to try to be vicariously in their shoes, and speak, not as yourself--free, well fed, having a means of livelihood, so sure of getting up from your own cozy bed in the morning on the morrow.

Tibetan Parliament in Exile: a personal portal to the doings of every governance at large

Following our parliament in exile's ongoing sessions and trying to feel its fever, but being within the limit of what is known as 'disinterested' coloration and participation, like what V.S. Naipaul, the great writer, an Indian by origin, writes that being familiar with a small drama leads to the understanding of great, complex drama, like the understanding of every complex formation through being familiar with a microcosmic entity first, I happen to come to get more of the developed country where I live as a guest, or say of every governance and its system at large. Then why not of a small, tucked away country below the 'developing' line; then why not of that is more or less of the relationship between a serf and a squire.

62nd Tibetan Women's Uprising Day commemorated in Dharamshala

It's rather sad for me to find less posts on the historic event in our struggle/resistance against Red China's illegal occupation of our country, known as March 12, Tibetan Women Uprising Day, on the social networking sites like facebook. But we have before our eyes, like here in France, during this year March 10 protest event, seemingly costly long colorful banners depicting a certain identity of a certain grouping, like meant to confuse our voice, our presentation to the world. What such a one (the name withheld as a token of consideration from my side) has to voice for other than for our collective cause. If such a one wishes, they can hold a separate event by itself, not to defile our historic event.

A Tibetan by origin

A Tibetan by origin, like those from the Himalayan regions at large who speak Tibetan and share the same mores related with Tibetan Buddhism, is the product of our forebears, the great empire and emperors' legacy that we should be able to keep as ours, not as someone adventitious. Being in the West, you might have come across how much even a developed nation, why not a 'super power' (the funny phrase), vies for incapsulating everything and everyone into their own intramural tropes and motifs, namely their ways of living, presenting as off the stale taste of yesterday's feast, can you feel it so yet?

A good idea

American embassy in Lhasa, a great idea. I want to hear Lhasians mingling their mellifluous lilts of Lhasa dialect into American, the best of the best for letting the other get what you want to express, the fast-food of what a language is all about for a plebeian, like myself. And, yes, as communally and convivially engaged and organized as Kyoto Tachibana Senior High School (SHS) Band, such a demo-oriented participation in appreciating the hardworking students taken to the streets for the people, like calling them out to breathe fresher air rather than holing up inside--come on Lhasians, come out and take to the streets so!

What is the origin of your nationality?

For a Tibetan, now, at this dark juncture of our national history, each and everyone of us, above 17, hasn’t such an alternative or privilege to claim oneself as ‘apolitical’, for we’re born an oppressed one, or a political refugee. Then, does it really make sense to place our livelihood in terms of ‘better life’ or ‘standard way of living’ as the top priority? How is it, if we, too, tend to yield to the same thoroughfare like a run-of-the-mill Chinese, namely the money-making-machine way as one’s way of life?

CTA’s Middle Way Approach: a personal perception and inference

The notion of ‘global family’, humankind as the most intelligent ape despite the Darwin’s theory of presumptuously proving it as from the lowest strata of its family, the globalized economy more and more based on capitalistic or materialistic emulation or reciprocity, a pan-racial entity, the nascent yet working European Union, and, to put it idealistically yet not exaggerated, our only choice is to co-exist on this life-supporting blue planet, the landmass checkered with the lozenges of a variegated carpet, each rhombus of different size and hue and speciality and character and depth, and the inhabitants’ personalities and cultures and moral fibers based on being able to approach complex entities--our perception and inference and the reality, nuance, discrepancy of how it appears and what it’s--through reasoning or any available logical analysis, and more significantly, being able to be eclectic and free and receptive of ocean of knowledge: His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s advocacy of Middle Approach--Tibet to be within the framework of China, a China in quest for greatness, any heuristic enlightenments but through ratcheting up increment by increment, and that by being able to adopt ‘realistic’ approaches, not madness and blindness, spearheaded and guaranteed by a working, reliable, demo-oriented constitution--can be called as a great extension willing to redound to this great notion of ‘global family’, our only choice so far.
